Any restrictions to participate?

  • Age: Participants must be at least 15 years old on the day the course begins. Participants under 18 must bring a parent or legal guardian to the first session to sign waivers in person, or bring notarized waivers signed by a parent or legal guardian. No exceptions.
  • Height: Participants must be at least 5'4" tall and able to flatfoot when seated on a two-wheeled motorcycle.
  • Physical limitations: Participants must be physically and mentally capable of being licensed in Texas as a motorcycle operator.
  • Experience level: This course teaches the basics of riding. Participants must know how to ride and balance a bicycle.

  • Duration: 2 days
  • What's included: Classroom and riding instruction, training motorcycle, course books and materials, supplemental insurance, loaner helmet, and a mandatory 5-hour EP1 online eCourse.
  • Who will be present: You will have an instructor with you at all times, and other students will be taking the course.
  • Photo/video: Photos are allowed and encouraged.
  • Specific rules to follow: Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. Successful completion requires passing a multiple-choice knowledge test and an on-the-bike skills test. Disruptive behavior or tardiness results in dismissal without a refund.

How to prepare?

  • Weather dependency: Rain or shine, the experience will be running. In unsafe conditions such as severe lightning, high winds, hail, or downpours, the class moves indoors.
  • Arrival: Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. On arrival, park in the rear and go to the side entrance closest to Salata.
  • What to wear:
    • Over-the-ankle footwear (not cloth or canvas)
    • Long non-flare denim pants or material of equal or better durability
    • Long-sleeved shirt or jacket
    • Full-fingered gloves, preferably leather
    • Eye protection (glasses are fine)
  • What to bring:
    • The completion certificate for the mandatory eCourse (entry is not permitted without it)
    • Valid ID: ages 15 to 24 need a valid driver's license or learner's permit; ages 25 and up can bring a driver's license, learner's permit, passport, or Texas ID card
    • Rain gear, just in case
    • A personal helmet is optional and must meet DOT standards; loaner helmets are available at no charge

  • Training bikes include cruiser, dual-sport, and standard motorcycles from 125cc to 250cc, by Honda and Suzuki.
  • Participants may use their own motorcycle with proof of insurance and a signed damage waiver, though the school recommends using its bikes.
  • Participants who pass receive the Texas DPS MSB-8 form. Those 18 and older with an unrestricted Class A, B, or C license can take it directly to a DPS office for their motorcycle endorsement. Riders aged 15 to 17 must also complete an on-the-road skills test at DPS on their own motorcycle.
  • Participants who do not pass the first time can retake the course at no charge through the Second Chance option.
  • The eCourse registration code and instructions are sent shortly after the confirmation email. Check the spam folder if it does not arrive.
