Join an Intro to Sea Kayaking Course and learn how to paddle a kayak while gaining an in-depth introduction to the freedom that sea kayaking offers. Your experienced instructors will cover the basics of sea kayaking, ensuring you are well-prepared for your paddle. The course includes comprehensive instruction on safely preparing for your paddle, followed by on-water practice in Elliott Bay. Space is limited to 5 people per class, ensuring personalized attention.

Any restrictions to participate?

• Age: All age groups are welcome.
• Physical limitations: Participants should be comfortable with physical activity and being on the water.
• Experience level: All levels are welcome. This course is recommended for those interested in renting single sea kayaks and is a prerequisite for the Rescue and Recovery Course.

Who can you accommodate for?

• Children: All participants must pay to participate, children included.

• Pets: Sorry, no pets allowed.

What to expect on the day of the experience?

• Duration: The course lasts 2 hours.
• What’s included: Instruction on sea kayaking basics, safety preparation, on-water instruction in Elliott Bay, equipment, dressing safely, understanding potential hazards, beach launch and landing, and basic strokes.
• Who will be present: You will have an instructor with you at all times. Class sizes are limited to 5 participants.
• Spectators: No spectators are allowed, everyone must have a reservation.
• Photo/ video: You may take your own photos.
• Specific rules to follow: Follow the instructor’s guidelines for safety and proper technique.

How to prepare?

• Weather dependency: Rain or shine, the course will be running.
• Arrival: Plan to arrive 15 minutes in advance.
• Parking: Parking is available near the meeting point.
• What to wear: Wear a wetsuit, swimsuit, or dry clothes suitable for getting wet.
• What to bring: Recommendations: Inform staff of your height, weight, inseam, and shoe size for proper kayak fitting. Bring a well-fitting wetsuit if you have one.
• Restrooms/ lockers/ changing rooms: Restrooms will not be available during the experience. Plan accordingly.

Anything else I should know before going on this experience?

• If you wear glasses, ensure you have croakies or similar attachments to keep them secure.

Unused Experience Vouchers can be returned within 14 days for a full refund to the original purchaser, no questions asked.

If you have any unused Experience Vouchers, you can exchange them for anything else in our marketplace, no matter when. If you choose an experience that's more expensive, you'll need to pay the difference, but if you choose one that costs less, you'll receive a credit towards your next booking.

No refunds are allowed once the experience is booked, but you can reschedule up to 24 hours before your experience at a $10 charge. To reschedule, contact the experience provider directly. No-shows or rescheduling less than 24 hours in advance means losing the value of your experience.
