Full description

This small-group class in San Francisco, with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 people, ensures a personalized and intimate learning environment. Nothing here is pre-made or contains preservatives—every guest will mix, knead, and roll out their own dough to create authentic dumpling wrappers from scratch.

The evening kicks off with an intriguing overview of Shanghainese cuisine, including a blind tasting of Chef Eddie’s favorite soy sauces. Next, delve into the art of making a perfectly braised soy sauce pork belly, exploring slow cooking and flavor balancing techniques. Then, the highlight of the night: crafting your own dumplings from scratch. Each guest will prepare their unique dipping sauce to complement their creations, culminating in a feast that ends with a delightful red bean dessert. Leave not only with a satisfied palate but also with a comprehensive recipe guide, empowering you to host your very own dumpling party at home. This is the perfect contrast to larger, impersonal classes with pre-made elements—here, every detail is crafted by you!

Eddie was awesome from start to finish! He provided detailed instructions prior to the event, ensuring we knew where to go and what to expect. The food was delicious and his upbeat energy was unmatched. He clearly put a lot of time and thought into this experience and it showed in the many ways he got us involved and engaged throughout the dinner party. Super impressed by this experience and already recommended it to some of my friends!

We are local to the Bay Area and booked this dumpling making class on a whim. Eddie was incredibly welcoming and truly carries a wealth of knowledge about our local food system, ingredients, and restaurant network. We learned so much about our own community during this lesson—from the best markets to source ingredients to reviewing nutrition labels for the highest quality ingredients. My husband and I took this class on a Sunday evening and cooked alongside four other guests. Everyone was laughing, sharing personal anecdotes, and very clearly having a great time. Eddie’s space is well-designed, extremely clean, and stocked with high quality kitchen tools and dining-ware. I loved that Eddie has mastered the balance between levity/play and constructive feedback for his students. Not only is he a formally trained chef and restauranteur, but also a first-generation child of Chinese parents who’ve passed down their culture through this food. Every pointer and correction Eddie offered felt so encouraging. He welcomed questions and engagement from his students. Everyone left his apartment laughing and sharing fond reflections about the night. I highly recommend this experience!!

We booked Eddie for a small corporate event for a law firm. Chef Eddie was incredible in a variety of ways: 1. Patient and flexible in the booking process. We had multiple guest count changes that resulted in us having to get a different space, plenty of last-minute drops and changes for guests, and a variety of dietary restrictions to account for. 2. Timely and professional communication via email for the event, including excellent pre and post-event communication on what to expect, how to get there, and instructions on how to have guests take what they learned and do it again in the future. 3. A member of my group reported that it was the best event they had experienced at the firm. This is the highest point of praise here, we do a LOT of events, and Chef Eddie's welcoming environment surely contributed to this.
