Overview

Wall Street's marble facades and civic landmarks hide feline history nearly as old as Lower Manhattan itself, and this Financial District, NY walking tour brings it to the surface. Guests follow a licensed guide from Zuccotti Park past City Hall and old newspaper offices to meet the cats who once kept watch over the city's biggest institutions.

🐈 Explore the historic streets of Lower Manhattan while hearing true cat stories dating back to the 1800s

🏢 Learn how a mouser kept watch over one of the city's most iconic early skyscrapers

📬 Discover how postal cats were once put to work protecting the mail from rats

🏛️ Hear about the beloved City Hall cat mascot adored by generations of civic workers

Lower Manhattan has always been a working neighborhood, and for much of its history, that included working cats. Ship cats, postal cats, office cats, and firehouse mascots once lived alongside the bankers, clerks, and civic workers who built the district's reputation, and this walking tour follows the streets and buildings where their stories played out. The route begins at Zuccotti Park and moves through some of the neighborhood's oldest blocks at an easy pace.

Along the way, guests hear about a mouser who kept watch over one of the city's earliest skyscrapers, postal cats tasked with protecting the mail from rats, and a beloved City Hall mascot fondly remembered by generations of civic workers. The tour is curated by a historian known for her deep archive of old New York cat stories and led by a licensed local guide, closing out at Foley Square with a fresh perspective on a very familiar part of the city.
