Practical information

Any restrictions to participate?

  • Age: Recommended for 12+. If under 18 years old, participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Who can you accommodate for?

  • Children: While tours do not contain anything too graphic or inappropriate, we find that kids that enjoy history have the best time. You know your children best and that's left up to you. We do not recommend bringing children in strollers because sometimes that can be difficult with larger walking groups. All participants must pay to join, children included.
  • Pets: Sorry, no pets allowed.
  • Individuals with disabilities: The majority of the tour is on city sidewalks and wheelchair-accessible, however, there is a gravel shore path that is not as easy to navigate. Service animals are welcome.

What to expect on the day of the experience?

  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • What’s included:
    • Expert paranormal guide
    • Fully narrated walking tour
  • Who will be present: Your expert guide and up to 30 participants.
  • Spectators: No spectators are allowed, everyone must have a ticket.
  • Photo/ video: You may take your own photos.

How to prepare?

  • Weather dependency: Rain or shine, the experience will be running.
  • Arrival: Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of the tour.
  • Parking: The meeting location is a very popular area, so please allow ample time to find parking. Metered street parking is available as well as pay-to-park lots. Please see parking information on Bar Harbor’s municipal website for more specifics including maps displaying parking options. The Island Explorer bus service is another option to consider.
  • What to wear: Comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for weather conditions.
  • What to bring:
    • Camera
    • Bottle of water

  • Gratuity: Gratuity for your guide is greatly appreciated if you enjoy the tour. $3-$5 per person is suggested.

Full description

Prepare to be enthralled by supernatural accounts from opulent lodgings like the Balance Rock Inn and the legendary Bar Harbor Club, as well as other supernatural hotspots across town.

Sample Itinerary:

  • Agamont Park: Some ancient monster sightings from the Wabanaki Confederacy's oral tradition curiously align with more contemporary accounts of encounters with unknown animals.
  • Bar Harbor Inn: It was the scene of contemporary ghost reports and once the site of a private club for wealthy gentlemen called The Reading Room. One of the club's members, although not really a Ghostbuster, helped pave the way for authentic parapsychological research.
  • Shore Path: Ghost stories abound along this scenic walkway as well as spectacular views of famous landmarks including the Egg Rock Lighthouse and Balance Rock.
  • Balance Rock Inn: The history of Bar Harbor’s mansions is steeped in scandal, mystery, and intrigue including astounding accounts of hauntings and one legendary curse.
  • The Village Burying Ground: Mainly populated with tombstones dating back to the 19th Century, this cemetery may not be haunted, but is the setting for more than one extraordinary story.
  • Local Haunts: Working people in town also report brushes with the unknown and the unexplained. Seemingly ordinary shops and apartments have become the backdrop for unexplained events. Even the sky above has been haunted by UFOs.
  • 1932 Criterion Theater: What makes this destination unique are its scandalous historical secrets as well as its peculiar Silver Screen specters such as the glowing green ghost said to wander backstage.
