Practical information

Any restrictions to participate?

  • Age: Participants must be at least 10 years of age or at least 50" tall.
  • Weight: If you are over the individual weight limit of 230 pounds additional charges may apply.
  • Height: Maximum height is 6’6″
  • Health limitations: Pregnant women are not permitted to fly at any time.
  • Physical limitations: If you have any health concerns (back problems, recent surgeries, age, etc.), please contact us ahead of time so we can accommodate you.

Who can you accommodate for?

  • Children: All children must be able to see over the basket. All passengers under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the waiver for them before the flight.
  • Pets: Not pet friendly
  • Individuals with disabilities: Not wheelchair accessible

What to expect on the day of the experience?

  • Duration: The average balloon flight is two to ten miles, depending on the winds, and flight time is thirty minutes to an hour. The overall balloon experience will last from two to four hours.
  • What’s included: A shared hot air balloon ride with vast views of the Shenandoah Valley.
  • Who will be present: The captain and up to 4 participants.
  • Spectators: Friends and family are allowed to come and watch the balloon take-off and land.
  • Photo/ video: Cameras and video cameras are encouraged.

How to prepare?

  • Weather dependency: This experience is weather dependent. In the event your experience is canceled due to inclement weather you will reschedule directly with the experience provider. Always contact the experience provider with any questions regarding weather conditions.
  • Arrival: plan to arrive 10 minutes in advance
  • Parking: You can park your vehicle at experience provider's determined meeting location.
  • What to wear: Please wear closed-toed shoes (ie. tennis shoes or boots) and long pants for your flight. Occasionally, the pilot will land in a field where there is tall grass.
  • What to bring: A hat to eliminate discomfort from the heat that comes from the burner. Light jacket if applicable. The temperature in the balloon is about 5 degrees warmer than the ground. Please do not bring extra bags or purses on the flight because of limited space in the basket.
  • Restrooms/ lockers/ changing rooms: Please kindly remember to use the restroom directly before meeting for the flight. The launch locations do not have public bathrooms on the premises.

Valley Ballooning is located in Woodstock, VA and offers flights from the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Flying over the Shenandoah is truly rewarding and offers spectacular views. Some things you may see on your flight include:

Many wine vineyards

Hot air ballooning offers a unique way to witness the beauty and splendor of nature that no other form of aviation can offer.
Balloon flights are typically flown in the first hour after sunrise or the last hour of daylight before sunset. During the day the air becomes much more active and it becomes unsafe for a balloon flight. During the cooler months it is possible to fly during the day because convection currents are not as strong. Our flights are usually 30 to 60 minutes in length.

Returns, exchanges and cancellation

Unused Experience Vouchers can be returned within 30 days for a full refund to the original purchaser, no questions asked.

If you have any unused Experience Vouchers, you can exchange them for anything else in our marketplace, no matter when. If you choose an experience that's more expensive, you'll need to pay the difference, but if you choose one that costs less, you'll receive a credit towards your next booking.

No refunds are allowed once the experience is booked, but you can reschedule up to 14 days before your experience, for a date within a year of the original booking. To reschedule, contact the experience provider directly. No-shows or rescheduling less than 14 days in advance means losing the value of your experience.

In the event your experience is canceled due to inclement weather you will reschedule your experience directly with your experience provider.

If you want to have a unique experience of enjoying the fall foliage, there's nothing better than going for a balloon ride! Don from Valley Ballooning is an experienced professional who prioritizes safety and makes sure you have a memorable experience. The crew on board, such as Randal, are super nice and even share pictures they take of you. The weather and wind conditions can be unpredictable but Don navigates through it with expertise. Although it may not be the most affordable experience, it is definitely worth it and I am grateful for the opportunity to have done it. If you're considering it, let me encourage you to go for it!
