Embark on a Private Clear Kayak Tour of Shell Key Preserve, offering a customizable adventure through one of Tampa Bay’s untouched natural settings. Over three hours, choose from diverse experiences such as navigating mangrove tunnels, exploring secluded beaches, or engaging in birdwatching. Transparent kayaks make it easy to view the vibrant marine life below, enriching your paddle with sights of dolphins, manatees, and various birds. Each excursion is led by expert eco-tour guides, ensuring an informative and enjoyable journey tailored to your preferences.

Select the Mangrove Exploration Tour to venture through waterways hidden at high tide, or opt for the Shelling/Beach Expedition during low tide for prime shelling along pristine beaches. For families, the Child-Oriented Educational Adventures combine learning with fun, focusing on marine biology and environmental stewardship. Alternatively, experience the serene transition of day to night on the Sunset & Glow Tour, which features kayaking under LED lights, providing a unique perspective of the preserve’s nocturnal life and landscape.

Any restrictions to participate?

  • Age: Minimum age is 12 years.
  • Weight: Maximum of 250 pounds per person and 425 pounds per kayak.
  • Physical limitations: Ability to paddle and manage a kayak is necessary.
  • Experience level: Suitable for all levels; private tours allow customization based on skill.

Who can you accommodate for?

  • Children: Suitable for children aged 12 and older.
  • Pets: Pets are not allowed within the preserve.

What to expect on the day of the experience?

  • Duration: Approximately 3 hours.
  • What’s included: Use of a clear tandem kayak, services of a certified eco-tour guide, all necessary safety equipment.
  • Who will be present: Each tour is led by a knowledgeable and experienced eco-tour guide.
  • Spectators: This is a private tour, no spectators; participants only.
  • Photo/ video: Participants are encouraged to bring cameras or phones with waterproof protection for pictures.
  • Specific rules to follow: Follow all safety guidelines provided by the guide; alcohol and pets are prohibited in the preserve.

How to prepare?

  • Weather dependency: Tours are subject to weather conditions; cancellations may occur due to unsafe weather.
  • Arrival: Arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled tour time.
  • Parking: Available at the launch site; remember the $1.00 toll for toll-by-plate or SunPass users.
  • What to wear: Long sleeves and pants recommended to protect against mosquitos, appropriate for water activities.
  • What to bring:
    • Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses for sun protection.
    • Water and snacks, especially for longer tours.
    • Bug spray, applied before the tour.
  • Restrooms/ lockers/ changing rooms: Facilities may be limited; prepare accordingly.

  • Participants are expected to sign a waiver; the link is provided via email.
  • Ensure all members of your party are aware of and comply with this requirement to avoid delays.

Returns, exchanges and cancellation

Unused Experience Vouchers can be returned within 30 days for a full refund to the original purchaser, no questions asked.

If you have any unused Experience Vouchers, you can exchange them for anything else in our marketplace, no matter when. If you choose an experience that's more expensive, you'll need to pay the difference, but if you choose one that costs less, you'll receive a credit towards your next booking.

No refunds are allowed once the experience is booked, but you can reschedule up to 72 hours before your experience, for a date within a year of the original booking. To reschedule, contact the experience provider directly. No-shows or rescheduling less than 72 hours in advance means losing the value of your experience.
