Full description

Sunset kayaking on the Potomac River provides a peaceful paddling experience during the cooler and quieter evening hours. This guided tour takes place in Brunswick, Maryland, close to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, and is easily accessible from Washington DC. It's an ideal time to observe wildlife such as herons, egrets, kingfishers, and occasionally eagles, against the backdrop of a setting sun. The route includes mellow water stretches and three sets of mild rapids, with the final set offering a bit more excitement as a Class II+ rapid. No kayaking experience is necessary, making it suitable for beginners.

Participants will use single kayaks due to the launch area's terrain, requiring carrying the boats down a gravel hill. It's recommended to wear shoes with good traction. For those interested in extending their stay, the Brunswick Family Campground, which is also the launch point, offers camping and cabin rentals. Additionally, beach cruiser bike rentals are available for those who wish to explore the scenic C&O Canal pathway before setting out on the river.
