Full description

Governors Island is a place of both historical and natural beauty, and this walking tour led by Mandy Edgecombe is the perfect way to explore it all. Guests will learn about the island's rich history, from its Dutch settlement in the 1600s to its use as a military base up until 1996. The tour also highlights the island's natural resources, including the modern gardens and native plant gardens, which are cared for by the Trust for Governors Island. Visitors can bring their own bicycles or rent them on the island to experience the 172-acre park in a unique way.

How far in advance should I book the tour?
We recommend booking at least 1 week in advance to secure your spot.

How do I find my guide at the Battery Maritime Building?
As you approach the Battery Maritime Building (BMB), you will see a Citi Bike stand on the right of the building near Cipriani, an event space and restaurant in the ground floor of BMB. You will meet your guide there 20 minutes before departure. It is imperative to meet at this time to queue up for disembarking to the island. It also allows some give if running late.
