Embark on a five-day kayak camping tour in the San Juan Islands, designed for enthusiasts eager to explore marine wildlife habitats, including orca whale territories. Participants will navigate different parts of the San Juan archipelago, adjusting routes daily based on weather conditions and participant input. Expect mornings filled with sunrise views and bird songs, days spent kayaking in prime wildlife areas, and evenings that may include hikes or quiet paddles under the stars. The itinerary is flexible, with potential activities like a round trip hike to a lighthouse or nighttime bioluminescence viewing.

Any restrictions to participate?

  • Age: All age groups are welcome. Note that the physical nature of kayaking may affect suitability for very young children or elderly participants.
  • Health limitations: Participants should be able to handle multiple days of physical activity. Not recommended for individuals with serious medical conditions.

Who can you accommodate for?

  • Children: Children under 12 may find the long distances challenging. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Individuals with disabilities: Please contact us in advance to discuss any specific needs; the nature of the activity may limit accessibility.
  • Pets: Pets are not allowed on the tour to ensure the safety and comfort of all participants.

What to expect on the day of the experience?

  • Duration: Total duration is 5 days, with daily kayaking sessions lasting 4 to 6 hours.
  • Whatā€™s included: Expert guides, sea kayaks, paddling gear, safety equipment, transportation to and from launch sites, meals (breakfast and dinner), and camping accommodations. Sleeping bags and pads available for rent.
  • Who will be present: Professional biologist/naturalist guides and a small group of fellow adventurers, typically not exceeding 12 participants for a personalized experience.
  • Spectators: This is a closed experience; only registered participants can join.
  • Photo/ video: Participants are encouraged to bring cameras; however, waterproof protection is recommended.
  • Specific rules to follow: Follow all safety instructions provided by the guides, respect wildlife guidelines, and no smoking during the tour.

How to prepare?

  • Weather dependency: Tours are subject to weather conditions; adverse weather may change the itinerary.
  • Arrival: Meet at Friday Harbor, San Juan Island at 8:00 AM on the start day. Be punctual to facilitate timely departure.
  • Parking: Available near the meeting point. Detailed instructions will be provided upon reservation.
  • What to wear: Dress in layers suitable for variable weather, waterproof outerwear recommended.
  • What to bring:
    • Waterproof bags for personal items.
    • Appropriate clothing and footwear for both kayaking and camping.
    • Personal items such as sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, and water bottle.
  • Restrooms/ lockers/ changing rooms: Facilities will be primitive; be prepared for outdoor camping conditions.

  • The adventure involves remote outdoor locations where conditions can change; flexibility and a good spirit are essential. Prepare for an immersive nature experience with potential sightings of local wildlife including orcas.

Returns, exchanges and cancellation

Unused Experience Vouchers can be returned within 30 days for a full refund to the original purchaser, no questions asked.

If you have any unused Experience Vouchers, you can exchange them for anything else in our marketplace, no matter when. If you choose an experience that's more expensive, you'll need to pay the difference, but if you choose one that costs less, you'll receive a credit towards your next booking.

No refunds are allowed once the experience is booked, but you can reschedule up to 30 days before your experience, for a date within a year of the original booking. To reschedule, contact the experience provider directly. No-shows or rescheduling less than 30 days in advance means losing the value of your experience.
